What we do

VIGIL Teams

Vigil provides carefully selected teams to help you deliver an existing or newly devised project or programme of work.

Vigil Teams

Before we advise and provide teams it is important we understand the project scope, client culture and team resource requirements for personnel and technology choices, both now and into the future.

We use our pool of experienced teams of recruiters, HR and technical experts in order to ensure that not only does that team have an exceptional level of technical skills, but also the soft-skills that are vital to a project’s health.

It is our experience that areas such as applicable skills, communication & personality and team working are just as vital to a project’s success as raw technical ability.

We make sure that on-boarding is thorough and aligned to the customers’ culture and working practices as well as aligning the teams with client infrastructure, security and compliance procedures.

The Vigil way of building coherent, communicative and vibrant teams, mixed with technically interesting projects is synonymous with employee engagement far longer on projects accumulating knowledge and skills vital to a project’s success.

VIGIL Managed

Using this model Vigil manages the full technology delivery from architecture, build and test, through to production deployment.

Vigil Managed

Working to a pre- agreed strategy and costed work plan ensuring full visibility of both costs and progress from outset to project completion.

This way of working tends to appeal to Startups and SMEs embarking on their first technology project or to larger organisations that want to spin out technology to a new joint venture or division.

Before setting out on managed work we prepare a full assessment of the clients needs in terms of the technology product or service that is required. Having made this analysis we can propose a technology strategy and roadmap.

In the managed service option this will go beyond the provision of staff, which we see as necessary but not sufficient, to the team structure and organisation, and technology tool choices.

We ensure that any development process is aligned with the client’s management structure and processes and place a high value on staff that have high communication skills on both sides of the relationship, all the way up to C-level interactions and communication.

VIGIL Guide

Navigating the rocky terrain of technology product development using modern methods such as lean processes and geographically dispersed teams.

Vigil Guide

Let us put our decades of experience to use in guiding you to a productive and efficient outcome.

Whether you are new to technology projects, new to using remote teams, or even an old hand at managing multiple sites we can advise on technology strategy, roadmaps, programme management and development process.

In all cases we start with a key assessment of our client’s current strengths and challenges and discover what the customer wants to achieve through their technology strategy.

This allows us to map out an effective route before offering advice on changes that need to be implemented. Then a Vigil expert works closely with the client to help them understand and solve technical challenges. The expert works directly with the customer but constantly taps into the pool of knowledge and skills that the Vigil team has built up over the years.

We have provided help and advice in the following domains …

  • Re-architecting to Service Based Architectures
  • Cloud Readiness and Deployment
  • IOT and Event driven systems
  • High performance caching and search systems
  • Data pipeline driven systems.

These have been applied to high throughput transactional systems mostly in the Financial, Gaming and Retail sectors but we welcome challenges from all business sectors in order to apply technology in the most appropriate way in order to deliver an effective and timely solution.

Some of the technologies we work with

Who we are

Vigil was founded on the premise that quality software engineering should be available to all.

Taking the best, and avoiding the worst of all that we have learned over the past 25 years we ensure the best outcomes for our customers.

After experiencing first hand the challenges of offshore software engineering we set out to prove that software development using remote teams could be successfully achieved when applying the appropriate people and communication centred processes and practices.

Our Team

Who we’ve helped

Vigil is privileged to work with fantastic customers, both innovators and those seeking innovation.

Cases

Elgin Roadworks

Elgin is a company dedicated to improving traffic conditions and traffic flow, enabling Highway Authorities, utility companies and works contractors to plan, manage and communicate better, helping the economy to grow and improving the daily lives of the travelling public.

When Vigil first engaged with Elgin, they had significant challenges caused by old legacy technology and architectural choices that were compromising the ability to scale their solution, a problem that was compounded by the inability to build and manage in London a stable team with all the necessary skill sets.

As a result, Elgin was able to become the leading roadworks information provider in the UK, with clients such as Google Maps and TomTom, and is currently expanding to Latin America.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Took Elgin from an idea to exit within 7 years
  • Provided all technology team members through company lifecycle
  • Resolved business critical technology challenges
  • Continue to act as trusted technology advisor

Sphonic

Sphonic is the new standard for managing regulatory requirements and digital risk in real time by using a regulatory compliance technology that allows you to simplify complex technical and operational challenges such as client onboarding and new customer growth, KYC requirements, AML, fraud & risk prevention and detection—enabling rapid business growth

Sphonic had developed their solution using a non-scalable technology stack that was showing its age and creating a number of scaling and customisation issues. Although the development team was in general stable and knowledgeable, it was being strained by the limitations of the platform that had been built and carried a cost that was stifling the growth of the customer base.

Our solution was a complete architecture redesign, performed by one of our founders and industry leading expert in Scala and Distributed Systems, Nigel Warren, and the creation of a development delivery team in Lisbon that implemented the suggested architecture.

Sphonic have market leading domain knowledge and customer relationships but little internal technology expertise. Vigil were approached to provide a fully managed technology solution for both software engineering and infrastructure support.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Successfully resolved business critical GDPR compliance issues on platform to ensure BAU post May 2018
  • Replaced failing technology with a robust and scalable cloud-based solution
  • Manage all of Sphonic’s technology division allowing the Sphonic team to focus on business development and commercial success
  • Continue to act as trusted technology advisor

Trainline

Trainline are Britain and Europe’s leading train and bus ticket booking platform and app. Recently acquired by the world’s largest Private Equity Fund, they are embarking on an aggressive global expansion program.

Dissatisfied with the incumbent outsourced off-shore provider in India, they approached Vigil to set up an API connections team in Portugal.

With a strategy to connect with all countries and each train operator Vigil is able to provide both the depth of expertise to unify two different legacy technology stacks and provide a technology roadmap and team capable of leading Trainline’s technology forward.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Successfully kicked off new team in 2018
  • Provided the skills, knowledge and expertise to work across two separate legacy platforms each based in two different countries
